Ok, I don't know everything, but I feel like the swine flu craziness is getting out of control.
Closing schools for one kid that's sick?
Cancelling all UIL sports for the whole state of TX until May 11?
I mean, it's a form of the flu. Lots and lots of people get the flu. Every year.
Yes, people have died from it.-as they do EVERY year when the flu comes around.
We don't know the underlying disease processes those who died had that might have made them sicker than others.
My point: don't freak out. Wash your hands often. Use hand sanitizer. Cover your mouth when you cough. Wear a mask if you're in the face of someone who has swine flu. Don't play with pigs.

an answer
After phone calls to 11 different practices, I have finally got a preceptor for the summer (assuming the contract and paperwork goes through like it should).
I am so thankful. I don't really care that I'll be driving to and from Grapevine twice a week. Just thankful that someone was willing to precept me this summer on such short notice. Thanks for your prayers.
So, I'm looking forward to the next 3 weeks of being off- minus a project and review for boards...all just minor details!!

so incredibly frustrated
Yesterday was supposed to be the best day. It was the end of my crazy working schedule (12/12 days straight of work) and I was pretty exhausted, but looking forward to my three week break between semesters.
I checked my Vanderbilt email around 5:00pm and got an email saying that the nurse practitioner that was going to precept me starting May 18 has packed up and left the state and no one else in their THREE offices is willing to precept. UNBELIEVABLE.
One of the most frustrating things about this program has been finding preceptors. Because Dallas has two other schools that offer a PNP program, it's been really hard to find people to precept because I've been essentially competing with two other programs.
So, I have the very difficult task of finding a preceptor in 3 weeks. Not only finding one, but hoping and praying that their contract goes through with the school.
I spent the majority of last night upset, crying (my eyes look like big puffy disks). I feel like crap, physically- I think I caught something from one of my patients. I know that God is in control and this did not surprise Him, but it surprised me and it is difficult in my heart to not get discouraged and say, "To heck with it all."
So, please be praying that I find someone this week that will precept me. If you have any ideas of people, please pass them along.
After this post, I'm deciding to no longer be frustrated and upset. I can't do anything to change what happened yesterday, but I can go forward and trust that the Lord has other doors that he wants to be opened.

he's home!

Thanks for all of your prayers- Marcos made it home safely yesterday from Iraq!!! I know that he was so excited to see Paige and see her preggo belly- imagine finding out your wife was pregnant the day before you left for Iraq and coming back to her being 8 months pregnant!
When I asked what he thought about him seeing her pregnant for the first time, he said, "She looks beautiful!" So sweet!! Baby Cameron will be making his appearance in late May!

quote of the day
Location: Breastfeeding class (today's lecture)
Speaker: "So, does anyone have an accessory nipple anywhere on them?"
Silence.
Speaker: "Oh.....hmmm...I guess not."
She then went on to say that she had a patient one time with an extra nipple on her knee and when she was breastfeeding that nipple would produce milk and her baby would feed from her knee....GROSS!
