The London Zoo and Stratford-upon-Avon

We went to the London Zoo with Oma, PapPap and Max. The girls had a blast, and it was a pretty nice zoo! Big hits were the pelicans, the butterfly house and the plush, green grass where the girls could run and play for a little bit.
....in the amphibian house....my least favorite place ever. I hate snakes.
PapPap was helping Lucy see all the critters
...it was cool to see where they filmed the zoo scene in the first Harry Potter movie, though!
My little monkey trying to see the monkeys
This little one loved to stretch her legs and walk all over the green grass!

looking closely at the butterflies....
They had this really cool pool where penguins where swimming- you could stand on the deep-end side and watch them swim, or you could stand on the deck and see the penguins walk around. Lucy loved it!
Annie liked it too- you could watch her head go back and forth watching the penguins swim

The last weekend the Frizzells were in town, we headed to Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare's birth-place, for a day-trip.
It is a beautiful, quaint little town and was such a fun trip!
with Oma on the two-hour train ride there....
Don't smile, Max! (and here's my giant purse that doubles as the diaper bag)
Hanging out with Daddy and PapPap on the train
When we arrived, they had an open market in the center of the town. Amazing cheeses, chocolates, breads, vegetables- it looked so yummy!!

The gardens at Shakespeare's house...
Lucy's favorite thing about the trip was the massive pin-wheel we bought her for a pound at the open-air market.
She swung that thing around everywhere we went (and accidentally swiped a guy at Shakespeare's house!)
They had the house set up like it most likely looked like when Shakespeare lived there....

Apparently his father was a tanner and made items such as leather gloves.
Lucy got to try on a pair...
In the open courtyard, they had an actor who would quote Shakespeare sonnets and plays:
 Mike Sr. got to participate....

On the Shakespeare tour, there are two other houses where his daughter, Anne Hathaway, lived and the church where he is buried. These two houses were probably my favorite because they were less-commercialized (most people don't go to see them after they see Shakespeare's house), but they were bigger and nicer and had really beautiful gardens. In one of the gardens, we met one of the locals, a 105-year-old lady and her daughter. They told us about how Stratford used to be, many years ago, how they would often come to the park, etc. She told me I should cut a flower from the garden and press it so that we'd always remember our trip! Lucy did end up picking an illegal flower from one of the gardens...but I didn't press it. I bought a really cute tea-towel instead. :)

Anne Hathaway's house:

This is walking away from the church where he is buried.
My phone ran out of picture space, so I'm missing some good pics from the church and from walking down the river (the "upon-Avon" part).

Here's the whole clan at lunch at a really cute tavern right in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon....

Such a fun day trip!

Randomness...

I thought I would post some random pics in between all the blog posts about our adventures.

I feel like people might think we get to do glamorous things all the time, go to fun places, because we live here in London.

However, I am raising an almost 1 year old and an almost 3 year old. There are lots of messes, laundry, dishes, poopy accidents, temper tantrums (and let me tell you, these are getting to be quite interesting!), time-outs, naps, groceries, etc.
We do get to do fun things, but it is still living a normal life with little kids, just in a different part of the world.

Proof that there are messes:
"Here! You want one?"

This is the church we started attending- All Souls Langham Place.
It's been a great fit for us! I've been attending the women's Bible study on Wednesday mornings and we have started meeting with a community group twice a month. The girls and I will start going to a playgroup tomorrow (we were on a waiting list!), so I'm excited about meeting other young moms with kids.
We are also getting the privilege of mentoring a newly-engaged couple from the church- this is how we loved serving back in Dallas at Watermark, and it's so fun to be able to do this again!
Fun fact- All Souls is right in front of the BBC Broadcasting building and is often seen on BBC broadcasts...
On March 31, Annie will have, yet another, surgery! She's had a blocked right tear duct for as long as she's been alive. Typically, this resolves on its own by one year of life, but the duct has not opened and she continually has goop draining from her eye. I think people think she either has pink eye all the time or is constantly tearing up.
The procedure itself takes about 5 minutes, but it has to be done under general anesthesia.

We went to see a pediatric ophthalmologist last week at Moorfield's Eye Hospital- it's an entirely free-standing pediatric eye hospital here in London. This was the area we waited in- I have to say that I felt a bit segregated!

I was in the bus the other day with the girls and this yellow Ferrari pulled up next to us. Inside was a mom driving with her little boy (maybe 15 months old), strapped into his car seat in the passenger side.
Um. Well, I guess that's one way to get around.

The Tower of London

We went to the Tower of London with Mike's parents and Max while they were here. They LUCKED OUT on FABULOUS weather the whole time they were here- NO rain at all!

So, here's our day outing to the Tower of London:
This is NOT the Tower of London- this is Mayfair, where Mike works.
We took them on a little waking tour of Mayfair, the Aston Martin, Bentley and Porsche stores, that are right next to his office.
I'm pretty sure Max died and went to heaven just seeing the stores and going inside the Porsche store.

But, we did go to the Tower of London next.
The outside of the TOL.
Her knight-in-shining-armor! (I know, cheesy, but I had to do it!)
Hanging out during the walking tour...

Ok, a little throw-back-Thursday for you all: here is Lucy trying on the helmet, and here is Mike trying on the same helmet back in 2005, when we took our anniversary trip to London!

My cute side-kick on the walking tour of TOL. She ended up sleeping for most of it (pretty okay if you ask me, because it was gruesome with lots of bloody details regarding beheadings, etc)

Family pic before we went to the White Tower, which houses the armory
Running through the armor. No biggie
Playing with canons. Also, no biggie
Oh, and this one too...

Here's another tbt:
This was us in 2014..

This was us in 2005....
...we look so well-rested here....

Mike, Willa and Max
And what trip on the Tube wouldn't be complete without Lucy hanging from the handle bars...
have to entertain the Brits.
